Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance politicians today today responded to Deputy President William Ruto’s choice or Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate terming it a ticket for the corrupt.
Speaking at the Kamukunji grounds during a political rally attended by thousands of residents, the leaders including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino said Gachagua had pending corruption issues facing him and wondered if he will get time to attend to the any court cases facing him.
Gachagua was charged in July 2021 with acquiring more than Sh7.3 billion suspected to be proceeds of crime. He was accused with nine other people and companies and had to deposit cash bail of Sh12 million or bond of Sh25 million to secure his release.
Among the charges is that he and Rapid Medical Suppliers Ltd acquired Sh6 million from Nyeri county government on December 29, 2014 for the supply of Dialysis machines to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital. He is also alleged to have received Sh104 million from Bungoma county government suspected to be proceeds of crime between January 2015 and June 2019.
Gachagua has however denied all the charges against him and termed the charges a witch-hunt by the Jubilee administration due to his studious support for Deputy President William Ruto.
