Former Cooperative Minister Joe Nyaga died on Friday 11th December 2020 while receiving treatment at the Nairobi hospital. According to his family sources, the veteran politician who was once a Presidential candidate died of covid19 related complications.
Born in 1948, the late Nyaga was the son of former powerful and Kenya’s longest serving cabinet minister Jeremiah Nyaga who served in the cabinets of Kenya’s first and second Presidents Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Arap Moi respectively.
Nyagah was the Member of Parliament for Gachoka Constituency in 1998 and was a minister in various ministries including the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry of Lands and Settlement.
He also served as Moi’s ambassador to Brussels (Belgium) before being appointed the Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Airways.
Nyaga was a member of Orange Democratic Movement’s Pentagon in the lead up to 2007 election. From 2013 to 2017, Nyaga was in charge of Northern Corridor Integration Projects & resigned to contest the Presidency as an independent candidate during the 2017 Presidential Elections.
