Four IEBC commissioners disown presidential results by Chebukati

Four commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission led by the Vice Chair Juliana Cherera have disowned the results of the just ended presidential election as announced by their Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

1. We decline to take ownership of the said presidential results because the aggregation resulted in a total exceeding 100%

2. The results of the presidential election held in August 9th 2022, declared and announced by Wafula Chebukati on August 15th 2022 belonged to himself and do not represent the declaration and announcement by IEBC

3. Chebukati claimed that Raila attained 25% of votes in 34 counties while Ruto attained 25% in 39 counties; the question is, which figures constituted the independent variable to warrant the conclusion?

4. In the absence of a credible and verifiable explanation, we concluded that the process that went into Form 34C was opaque and incapable of earning our ownership and confidence

5. He (Chebukati) did not allow us to discuss the results to see whether there were any disparities before they were declared

6. The Chairperson, Chebukati, has conducted the elections as though he is the National Returning officer; a non-existent role.

7. We do not know the actual numbers… The final tally was not brought to the attention of the commission

8. In contrary to the constitution and legislation, by the time the Chairman declared the final results, results from other constituencies had not been announce

-Juliana Cherara, IEBC Vice-Chair
