Siaya senator James Aggrey Orengo has poured cold water on recent rumours that he will run for Ugenya parliamentary seat instead of Siaya Gubernatorial race come 2022. Orengo has attributed the rumours to his political detractors who are keen on achieving their selfish objectives.
For the better part of the week, rumours has been strife that Senator Orengo who is one of the top contenders for Siaya gubernatorial seat had given up on the same and resorted to the Ugenya parliamentary seat. The rumour published in a gossip column of a local daily says that the Senate minority leader has decided to vie for the Ugenya parliamentary seat in order to qualify for a cabinet appointment in the next government should the BBI constitutional changes sail through at the referendum.
Senator Orengo says the gossip and related rumours was fake news laced with malice to taint his brand and portray him in a particular manner. As a result, the senator reiterated that he is not eyeing any Cabinet Secretary post through the BBI and added that he is banking on his past development records on education, improving healthcare services, provision of bursaries to students and prudent use of the the Constituency Development Funds amongst others to be elected the next Governor of Siaya come 2022.
As the reign of Governor Rasanga comes to an end in 2022, the Siaya gubernatorial race seems to have attracted the best minds in the county with a number of candidates declaring their interests.
Other than Senator Orengo, those eyeing the seat are Ugunja member of parliament Opiyo Wandayi and former Rarieda MP Nicholas Odero Gumbo who gave the incumbent governor Rasanga a run for his money as an Independent candidate in 2017.
However, with the entry of Police Spokesman Charles Owino Wahongo, the race has definitely taken a new twist and it remains unclear who will emerge victorious.
