Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura on Monday quit his position as acting Governor of the County and handed over instruments of power to the newly sworn in Deputy Governor Anne Kananu Mwenda.
According to Mutura, last week’s swearing in of the Deputy Governor had made his continued stay as acting governor untenable. “I now, therefore, relinquish my acting as the governor of Nairobi and resume my duties as the Speaker of Nairobi County Assembly to allow Ann Kananu to proceed and assume the position of Governor in a substantive manner,” he added and assumed his role as Speaker of the County Assembly.
As a result, the Deputy Governor Anne Kananu Mwenda effectively took over as acting Governor only three days after she was sworn in as deputy governor.
