ODM appoints University dons Prof. Catherine Mumma & Prof. Ben Sihanya to chair NEB & NDC

The ODM party has reconstituted two of its standing committees the National Elections Board (NEB) and the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) and replaced the previous office bearers whose terms have expired.

Prof. Ben Sihanya Chair of Disciplinary Committee

In a statement signed by the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna after a meeting of its Central Committee chaired by the party leader Raila Odinga, the party revoked the recommendations of its National Executive Committee held in Nakuru in June 2019 to reconstitute its committees and replace the long service party officials whose terms have expired.

University don Catherine Mumma takes over from nominated senator Judith Pareno as the new Chair of the National Elections Board effectively putting her in charge of the 2022 elections. Mumma led the task force appointed by the party in 2019 to investigate the reasons why the party did not do well in the 2017 elections and which recommended an overhaul of the party’s structure. The Mumma committee noted that nomination was one of the causes of ODM’s poor performance in subsequent elections which followed its star performance in 2007. Mumma will now be the person in charge of the party nominations in readiness for the 2022 general elections. The party has also picked University law Professor Ben Sihanya to head its National Disciplinary Committee.

Both standing committees are composed as follows;

  1. The ODM National Elections Board
    • Prof. Catherine Mumma Chairperson
    • Mr. Abdulahi Diriye
    • Mr. Richard Tairo
    • Ms. Syntei Nchoe
    • Ms. Emily Awita
  2. The ODM National Disciplinary Committee;
    • Prof. Ben Sihanya –Chairperson
    • Mr. Ramadhani M. Abubakar
