Rigathi Gachagua uses Presidential debate to attack President Kenyatta

The United Democratic Alliance deputy presidential candidate Rigathi Gachagua utilized the Deputy Presidential debate held on 19th July 2022 at the Catholic University to attack outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta. The Mathira legislator announced that the Kenya Kwanza administration will form a commission of Inquiry to investigate state capture by the current administration.

Speaking during a Deputy Presidential debate at the Catholic University auditorium in Nairobi, Gachagua blamed state Capture for the many problems bedevilling the country and gave the example of a business owned by President Uhuru Kenyatta – upon which he was specifically asked whether he would investigate the Kenyatta family should the Kenya Kwanza government form the next government. 

The Mathira legislator was however evasive only emphasizing that the coalition would target the powerful people involved in the state capture. “We will not go after anybody, we will go after those who have captured the state and deal with conflict of interest,” he noted. 
 
However Azimio Deputy President candidate Martha Karua however took issues with Gachagua’s preference on Commissions and stated that the Kenya Kwanza coalition was never interested in fighting corruption because their camp had many culprits including Gachagua himself who was facing several cases in court. Karua said that corruption would only be solved through an effective system and government that would hunt down the corruption cartels.
