Disgraced Senator Sakaja emerges from hideout & Resigns from Covid-19 Committee

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has come out of his hideout and presented himself to the Kilimani police station.

The Senator had been arrested on Saturday night drinking at the Ladies Lounge Kilimani in contravention of the curfew restrictions imposed by the government. He spent the night at the Kilimani police station and was released the following day with an order that he comes back to record a statement the following day.

However the Senator who also Chairs the Senate committee on Covid 19 failed to show up at the police station and instead tweeted on July 18 2020 “Never been arrested. Won’t be. Show me an OB Number.”

His defiance and the fact that he switched off his cell phones prompted the police to launch a manhunt for him.

On Monday July 20, the Senator emerged from his hideout and surrendered himself to the Kilimani police station accompanied by his lawyers to record a statement.

While addressing the press, Senator Sakaja apologized to Kenyans for flouting the Covid-19 rules despite being the chair of the Senate ad hoc Committee on COVID-19. Subsequently he announced his resignation from the Committee.
