US President Donald Trump has directed those who cannot socially distance to wear masks saying that its patriotic to do so.
“We are United in our effort to defeat the Invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance,” tweeted Trump. “There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!”
His announcement ends months of wavering over whether people should wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
President also announced that he will resume regular coronavirus briefings which had ended in April starting Tuesday. “We had very successful briefings. I was doing them, and we had a lot of people watching — record numbers watching in the history of cable television,” Trump told reporters in the White House.
The US has confirmed more than 3.7 million cases of COVID-19, with more than 141,000 deaths, according to an NBC News tracker. New cases have been announced in large parts of the US in a trend that has sent shockwaves throughout the world.
