Walter Mong’are Nyambane is not only perhaps the only candidate who has not been involved in early campaigns as per the electoral rules. However today the celebrity comedian who made a name for himself mimicking former President Moi became the first presidential candidate to be cleared to run for the August 9th 2022 presidential elections.
The announcement was made by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati who announced that Mr Mong’are, complied with all set electoral commission’s conditions and constitutional requirements.
The commission on Sunday turned away presidential aspirant Peter Kingori and his running mate for lack of all the necessary documentation required to run for the August polls. Kingori according to IEBC fell short of the required signatures after he presented only 65 of the 48,000 signatures required.
This morning several other candidates were denied clearance for failure to comply with the requirements. These included Muranga Governor Mwangi Wa Iria of Usawa party, Mr. Justus Juma of the Justice and Freedom Party, Mr. Reuben Kigame, Mr. George Wajackoyah of Roots Party amongst others.
The 47 year old Umoja party candidate served as Director in youth programs at the presidency and cabinet affairs office in the government of Kenya before resigning to join politics. he was cleared alongside his running mate Rachel Dorah Mwakazi.
