The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association members have voted by acclamation to remove Kirinyaga Women Representative Purity Ngirici as chairperson.
Hon. Ngirici has been replaced by her counterpart in Kiambu Gathoni Wamuchomba. Ngirici has been using much time fighting women leaders instead of advancing women agenda. Her fellow MPs have accused her of failure to protect interests of women in leadership. Ngirici was supportive of the failed efforts by Kirinyaga MCAs to impeach Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
Ngirici has however opposed the changes saying that the association’s constitution was flouted. “They can remove me when they want to. They need to call a meeting. There must be a meeting of seven days. They must invite every member. There should be two-thirds, not signatures.” Said Ngirici.
Kewopa is an association of all elected and nominated women parliamentarians drawn from across all political parties in the Senate and National Assembly.
