US Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden has settled on 55 year old California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate for the upcoming Presidential elections.
Biden announced on his Twitter handle “I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate.”
Biden added “Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”
The Tuesday announcement makes Kamala Harris the first Black woman to run on a major political party’s presidential ticket. Senator Harris was Joe Biden’s rival and harshest critic during the early stages of the Democratic party primaries.
The former US prosecutor rose to national prominence within the Democratic Party when she vibrantly interrogatedPresidents Trumps’ nominees Jeff Sessions and Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Biden had promised to pick a female candidate and the choice makes Harris the 3rd woman to run as a VP of major party after Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 and Sarah Palin in 2008.
