Two KRA customs officers arrested at JKIA over bribery allegations

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have apprehended two employees of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stationed as Customs Officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on charges of bribery.

The suspects, identified as Mutava Lawrence and Timothy Momanyi, are accused of soliciting a Ksh.120,000 bribe from a traveler in exchange for the release of goods that had been confiscated. The traveler refused to comply with the demand and instead reported the incident to the EACC.

Following a swift investigation, EACC detectives arrested the two men on Friday evening as they attempted to accept the bribe. During the operation, a search of their vehicles uncovered Ksh.297,000, believed to be proceeds of corrupt activities, along with a firearm.

The arrested officers have been detained at the Industrial Area Police Station as they await further processing and eventual arraignment in court. This operation highlights ongoing efforts by the EACC to combat corruption and uphold integrity within public service.
