Kenya loses its 1st doctor to Covid 19 as mother of twins Doreen Lugaliki, 39 succumbs to Covid 19

Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) is mourning the death of a front line doctor Doreen Lugaliki 39 who has succumbed to the Covid19 48 hours after being admitted.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe while addressing the press from Kilifi condoled with Lugaliki’s family saying that her death is great loss to the medical fraternity and the country as whole.

“Dr. Lugaliki contracted the virus while at work, reiterating on the need for the government to protect front line workers.” KMPDU said in their post on social media

Dr. Lugaliki, a single mother twins worked as an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the Nairobi South Hospital and had been admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital ICU and becomes the first Kenyan doctor to succumb to the novel corona virus.

Her colleagues led by Dr. Ouma Oluga described the deceased as a diligent doctor whose best years were yet to come. Kenya has recorded a number of 8,975 patients since the pandemic broke out.
