Omanyala finally leaves For Oregon after US Visa scare

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is set to leave the country this evening for Oregon to compete in the World Athletics Championships after being granted a last-minute visa to travel to the United States.

This follows an uproar on social media following his announcements that he had not been issued with a visa to enable him travel to Eugene Oregon in time for the championships that begin on Friday. “I have given up my trip to Oregon. Even if I am given a visa today it’s too late,” Omanyala had told the AFP.

Following the uproar, the sprinter was called to the ministry of sports this morning and was handed the visa to travel. Omanyala later addressed the press at the Athletics Kenya offices and confirmed that he had been issued with a 5 year US visa.

“Visa challenges are faced by all Kenyans and people daily, in this case I was no different, “I would like to thank God, the President of Kenya HE Uhuru Kenyatta and GOK through Ministry of Sports Culture and Arts, CS Amb. Amina Mohamed have been at the forefront in ensuring I get my visa. Thank you to the US Embassy in Kenya for granting me my Visa.” He said.
