During a church service in Bungoma County on Sunday, President William Ruto called on political leaders to refrain from inciting violence among the youth and to instead focus on creating better opportunities for them. His remarks come amid growing political tensions in the country, as critics continue to challenge his leadership.
President Ruto emphasized that leaders who encourage young Kenyans to engage in violence are hindering the nation’s progress. “These young people of Kenya don’t need violence or confrontation. They want opportunities, jobs, and avenues to engage in business. That is what we should be doing as leaders, rather than inciting them to destruction and chaos, which will not resolve their issues or those facing the country,” he stated.
The President reiterated his commitment to enhancing job creation and employment opportunities, encouraging the youth to take advantage of existing government programs. “There are opportunities in labor migration, ICT hubs, housing, and agriculture. Plan yourself accordingly with these opportunities, and your life will progress,” he advised.
Ruto also addressed criticisms from his political opponents, asserting that he remains undeterred in his mission to transform the country. “Do not worry about those hurling insults; they do not have an alternative plan. But Kenya will move forward. You can take that assurance from me,” he said.
His comments come in response to recent critiques, particularly from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has described Ruto’s leadership as lacking strength. Despite the backlash, Ruto is focused on ensuring the success of his legacy projects, dismissing the negative commentary as distractions.
As the political landscape in Kenya continues to shift, Ruto’s call for unity and constructive engagement with the youth resonates as he seeks to foster a more prosperous future for the nation.
