Vivo Energy Kenya has issued a statement addressing concerns raised by content creator Tanuki Garage, whose viral video alleged discrepancies in fuel quality at various petrol stations in Nairobi, including Shell V-Power.
In the statement released on Sunday, Vivo Energy emphasized that all its fuel imports into Kenya comply with stringent quality standards. The company clarified that its fuels fall into two Research Octane Number (RON) categories: Unleaded (RON 93) and Shell V-Power (RON 95).
“Each fuel shipment is certified at the source and undergoes rigorous testing upon arrival in the country to ensure compliance with quality standards,” the statement read.
Tanuki Garage, in his video, claimed to have conducted tests at several petrol stations, revealing that Shell V-Power at one station scored 87 PON (Pump Octane Number), while the standard Unleaded fuel at the same station scored a higher 91 PON. These findings sparked public debate over the quality of premium fuels in the market.
Vivo Energy Kenya, established in November 2012, supplies a wide range of products, including automotive fuels, lubricants, aviation fuels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and black fuels. The company operates oil storage terminals in Nairobi, Mombasa, and Nanyuki, and provides aviation services at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Wilson Airport, Mombasa International Airport, and Malindi Airport. Additionally, it runs a lubricating oil blending plant in Mombasa.
The company’s response aims to reassure customers of the quality and reliability of its products, amid growing scrutiny fueled by the viral video. Vivo Energy reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring customer satisfaction.
As the debate continues, consumers are urged to remain vigilant and report any concerns to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
