Global condemnation follows Trump’s Gaza “Takeover” proposal

Following President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding a U.S. “takeover” of the Gaza Strip, a wave of condemnation has emerged from Palestinians, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and other nations. Trump’s vision includes turning Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East” and suggests resettling Palestinians in countries such as Jordan and Egypt, despite strong pushback from various leaders and communities.

Hamas dismissed Trump’s plans as “absurd” and “hostile,” while the Palestinian Authority firmly rejected the idea of resettlement, asserting that Palestinians will not abandon their homeland. Ordinary Gazans expressed their determination to stay, telling the BBC, “This is our land.”

International reactions have been swift, with Egypt’s foreign minister stating that Gaza should be redeveloped without forcing its inhabitants to leave. The broader international community has echoed this sentiment, advocating for a two-state solution where Palestinians can “live and prosper in their homelands.” Saudi Arabia also rejected any efforts to displace the Palestinian population.

In a heated exchange during Prime Minister’s Questions, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized Britain’s support for a two-state solution, highlighting the importance of allowing Palestinians to return and rebuild their lives in Gaza. He described recent images of Palestinians walking through the rubble as deeply moving and called for a sustained ceasefire to facilitate the release of remaining hostages and ensure humanitarian aid flows into the region.
