President Ruto encourages private sector growth in Kenya’s Tourism Sector

On Sunday, President William Ruto called on the private sector to deepen its involvement in the Kenyan tourism industry, which he observed is experiencing significant growth. While welcoming the MS Norwegian Dawn to Mombasa, Ruto highlighted the positive trend in tourism, reporting a notable increase in tourism revenue to Ksh.450 billion, an uplift of approximately Ksh.80 billion.

The president urged private investors to capitalize on the growing tourism numbers by establishing hospitality and related businesses along the Kenyan coast and other tourist hotspots. “There are vast opportunities to provide quality hospitality facilities. I encourage the private sector to expand their presence, ensuring that as we attract more visitors, we also enhance our facilities and support our skilled hospitality workforce to better serve our guests,” Ruto emphasized.

Additionally, President Ruto announced the decision to waive the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) requirements for African visitors, a move aimed at further boosting the country’s tourism appeal. He also mentioned that entry requirements for international tourists will be reviewed to make Kenya an even more attractive destination.

“We take pride in the milestones we are achieving as a nation to position Kenya as a favored destination for travelers from around the globe,” Ruto asserted.

The MS Norwegian Dawn, which docked in Mombasa, is carrying nearly 3,000 passengers, including approximately 2,200 guests, showcasing the rising interest in Kenya as a prime tourist destination.
