US President Donald J Trump has announced that he has cancelled the Jacksonville portion of the Republican Party convention. Speaking at a Whitehouse Corona Virus briefing, the President said he decided to go against the advise of his political team saying he had a duty to protect the American people from the corona virus.
The city had been planning for the national convention for nearly a month, since the Republican party announced that it would host President Trump’s nomination acceptance speech in Jacksonville. According to data released by the state’s Division of Emergency Management, the county now has more than 17,000 reported cases of corona virus which is the sixth highest of any county in the state.
President Trump announced he would make his convention speech in a different format that doesn’t endanger the safety of his people.
