Kenya Railways procures Five Trains to ease Traffic Jam

Kenya Railways has acquired new Diesel powered trains from Spain, in a bid to ease the city’s snarl up.

The cooperation stated that it had purchased eleven diesel multiple units from Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) – a company which operates the metre gauge railway network on the Spanish Island of Majorca. So far five trains have been delivered.

The units are currently undergoing a trial run on the Nairobi Commuter rail before their official commissioning for operations.

Kenya Railways added that this was among the grand plans to improve commuter services within the city and its environs and make it seamless.

This development comes after the Cooperation unveiled its plan to introduce Bus Rapid Transit in partnership with Nairobi Metropolitan Service to further provide smooth commuter services within the city and its outskirts.

These upgrades are expected to attract an estimated 1.5 million people currently flocking the Central Business District everyday.
