President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered pubs and restaurants to be closed at 9 pm and declared a ban on political gatherings for 30 days. The President has also ordered that burial of deceased persons be concluded within 72 hours of demise with attendance capped at 100 with priority to family.
In his address on 12th March 2021, the President announced that the public social measures including social distance and washing of hands and wearing of masks will continue. As for worshippers, the President has announced that only a third of worshippers will be allowed in places of worship.
This announcement by the President is a big blow to bar owners and taxi operators who have recently pressurized the President to lift restrictions on pub operating hours and ease the night curfew in the wake of falling monthly infection rates.
The business people said that a continued stay of Covid-19 containment restrictions has ravaged their businesses– forcing bar and restaurants to shut as those still in business to retrench their workers by halves.
