Agano party Presidential candidate David Waihiga Mwaure launched his manifesto at a small function in Nairobi.
Flanked by his running mate Ruth Mutua and some members of the clergy, Mwaure said he didn’t have the money to hold the event at KICC, Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums like his competitors and appealed to Kenyans not only to vote for him but help fund his presidential campaign.
Mwaure was introduced by his running mate as a Father, husband, Lawyer, church minister and business man who had the right credentials to lead the country.
His manifesto named ‘Badilisha’, English for ‘Change’, wants Kenya to state from a clean slate and is based on 12 pledges dubbed Aganos or Covenant namely;
Agano to the constitution, the Family, Women, Youth, Persons Living with Disability, County Governments, Workers, Business Owners, the Economy, Religious Institutions, the Environment, as well as Agano to the International Community.
Mwaure promised a raft of changes including creating an office for the Registrar of Families and use Huduma Number data to conduct family centres planning. Agano will ensure that each registered family has at least one employed person and to roll out the Universal Healthcare Coverage program based on disease and demography.
He promised to do away with Tax Compliance Certificate and Agpo Certificates for government tenders which has locked out many Kenyans from doing business with government.
Mwaure took a swipe at his competitors saying two of them had been in government and were part of the problems facing the country while the other “joker” who had been part of the intelligence community may have been used as a conduit for hiding Kenya’s wealth abroad.
The soft spoken little known politician is making his stab at the Presidency after several failed attempts to vie for political office. In 2011 he lost the Kamukunji constituency seat under Agano party after the nullification of Simon Mbugua’s 2007 election.
Mwaure founded the Agano (Covenant) party in 2006 as a party rooted on just and righteous principles.
Mwaure was also offered a direct ticket to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2021 after the impeachment of Mike Sonko as governor. However the election didn’t happen after the County swore in Deputy Governor
Shortly after the ejection of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in January 2021, the party offered David a direct ticket on which he expressed his interest to occupy the seat.
