Court rules IEBC unfairly locked out presidential aspirant Reuben Kagame

A High Court in Nairobi has ruled that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) treated Presidential aspirant Reuben Kigame unfairly by locking him out of the upcoming Presidential polls.

Justice Anthony Mrima said IEBC violated Kigame’s right and ordered the commission to consider his papers and the signatures he had collected. However sources at the IEBC say the commission may seek for a stay of execution since the Presidential ballot papers have already been printed.

Kigame was one of the more than 50 presidential aspirants who were locked out of the presidential contest for failing to meet the criteria set by the the commission for aspirants. The purge by the IEBC saw the list of aspirants which had the highest number of independent candidates trimmed down to only four candidates namely Azimio’s Raila Odinga, Roots Party’s Wajackoyah, Agano Party’s David Mwaure and UDA’s William Ruto.
