Kenyan runner Faith Kipyegon has won Kenya’s first gold medal in the women’s 1500m final at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Hayward Filed in Eugene. The two-time Olympic champion finished with a time of 3 minutes, 52.96 seconds to regain her world title.
Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay and Great Britian’s Laura Muir came second and third place, respectively at a time of 3:54.52 and 3:55.28 respectively with Australia’s Jessica Hull and Georgia Griffth finish seventh and ninth respectively.

Deputy President William Ruto has congratulated Kipyegon for her victory tweeting “Incredible performance! Congratulations Faith Kipyegon for winning Gold and regaining your world 1500M title. Well in Judith Korir and Stanley Mburu for clinching Silver on your respective races and Conseslus Kipruto’s Bronze.”
Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has also congratulated Kipyegon saying “Well done, what a powerful finish by Faith Kipyegon to take the 1500 M Gold medal. Congratulations! Keep running and keep inspiring our youth. #Oregon2022“
