Former Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Uashin Gishu Woman Rep Gladys Boss Shollei have both been elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly respectively.
Wetangula was elected after garnering 215 votes following Kenneth Marende’s withdrawal from the second-round vote after managing 130 votes.
According to the house standing orders one must gunner two-thirds or 233 votes out of 349 to win in the first round of voting. “The Honorable Moses Masika Wetangula stand elected as the speaker of the National Assembly,”said Clerk of the National Assembly Serah Kioko.
Wetangula later took oath of office before taking charge of the house as the Speaker of the 13th National Assembly. “I will do right to all rights of persons in accordance to the Constitution of Kenya and as prescribed by the this house standing orders without any fear or favor, “he said. He then proceeded to lead the house for the election of Deputy speaker where Shollei emerged top by beating Daadab MP Farah Maalim.
