Immediate former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi and his Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP today joined Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Kiraitu and his team was received by the Deputy President. “We welcome the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) to Kenya Kwanza. Their resolve to work with us is indication that leaders agree that the interests of Kenyans overrides our personal or party interests.”
The DEP party boss lost his gubernatorial role lost to Kawira Mwangaza – an independent candidate who also later joined Kenya Kwanza. Additionally, the former governor maintained that he would stick with President-elect William Ruto even if the Supreme Court overturned his victory.
“DEP will stand with you (Ruto) regardless of the outcome of that case because ultimately what is important for us in our party is that you have an effective grassroots campaign that captured the aspirations of many Kenyans, especially Mt Kenya. “We have listened to our people and it is their wish that we partner with you as our president,” he stated.
