Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has told off Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata following his previous comment on the proposed Revenue Allocation Formula.
While speaking today in Nairobi, Mr. Malala called on Mr. Irungu to be cautious with his words regarding the Building Bridges Initiative and the handshake. He was responding to Mr. Kang’ata’s previous remarks that there will be no Building Bridges Initiative if the new revenue allocation formula does not pass in the Senate.
Mr. Malala maintained that they will not be threatened by the Senate majority whip Mr. Irungu Kang’ata into submission through BBI. He said that they have nothing to lose as opposition even if BBI does not go through reminding Kang’ata that he needs that BBI more than them.
He added that they cannot be part of a leadership that disadvantages half of the population and divides this country on the basis of tribalism.”We have crafted a formula that is going to ensure that all the counties in Kenya benefit so that no county loses,” said Malala.
The revenue standoff is expected to be presented to the floor of the Senate tomorrow for voting.Whether the Senators will agree to pass the new formula is a matter of wait and see.
