Chief Justice Martha Koome says her Security detail has been withdrawn

Chief Justice Martha Koome has publicly condemned the government’s recent decision to withdraw her security detail, characterizing it as an assault on the Judiciary and her office. In a letter addressed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Koome expressed her deep concerns regarding this alarming development.

The Chief Justice argued that this move not only undermines the independence of the Judiciary but also jeopardizes the safety of judicial officers nationwide.

In response, Inspector General Kanja clarified that the officers assigned to her were either undergoing training after their promotions or had been transferred to other stations as part of a routine process. He assured that new officers have been reassigned to the Chief Justice while those who left are preparing for their promotional courses.

This matter raises significant questions about the protection and autonomy of the Judiciary, highlighting ongoing tensions between judicial independence and governmental authority.
