Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)’s Abdulswamad Nassir was on Tuesday 30th August pronounced Governor-Elect for Mombasa after garnering 119,083 votes flooring UDA’s Hassan Omar who got 98,105.
The results were announced by Mombasa IEBC Returning Officer Swalha Yusuf after the tightly fought race that included Hezron Awiti of the Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP), William Kingi of Pamoja Africa Alliance party (PAA), Said Omar of Usawa party, Daniel Kistao (Independent) and Shafi Makazi (Independent).
The immediate former Mvita legislator won in all the constituencies of Mombasa. In Kisauni constituency, Nassir got 21,796 votes while Omar had 20, 750 votes. In Jomvu, Nassir had 15,629 votes as Omar got 1,038 votes. In Mvita constituency, Nassir got 24,106 votes amid Omar’s 19,086 votes, Nyali constituency, Nassir got 22,387 votes while Omar got 21,580 votes. In Changamwe Nassir garnered 17,740 and Omar 15,898 while in Likoni constituency, Nassir emerged the victor with a total of 17,425 votes while Omar got 9,756 votes.
The former MP thanked his supporters for voting for him and said he was willing to work with everybody for the sake of the people of Mombasa. “Campaigns are over, it’s now time to work for the people of Mombasa,” said Nassir.
