Kenya’s 3rd President Emilio Mwai Kibaki was laid to rest on 30th April 2022 at his Munyange home in Othaya in Nyeri county. Kibaki’ s cortege left the Lee Funeral on Saturday morning and travelled to Nyeri via the Thika Super Highway in a long convey upto the Approved School Othaya where a final requiem mass was held in his honour.
Speakers including his daughter Judy Kibaki, son Jimmy Kibaki, further paid tribute to the president under the guidance of Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri Archdiocese. Other speakers included Deputy President William Ruto, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ambassador Francis Muthaura and Kibaki’s friends and extended family members.
President Uhuru Kenyatta have his closing remarks thanking the Othaya and Nyeri residents for giving Kenyans a leader who transformed the country in many ways. The President added that his friendship with the Kibaki family will continue despite the passing on of Kibaki.
Kibaki’s body was lowered to the grave by the Kenya Defence Forces in the presence of his family, President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and several national leaders among them DP William Ruto and former PM Raila Odinga.
