Wandayi pins Odinga’s AUC election loss on certain Kenyan leaders

Energy Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi has attributed Raila Odinga’s defeat in the recent African Union Commission (AUC) elections to the actions of some Kenyan leaders. He pointed out that the celebratory reactions from specific individuals following Odinga’s loss have revealed who his true allies are.

While addressing attendees at the burial ceremony of Prof. Bethwell Ogot at Odera Akang’o University in Gem Yala sub-county, Wandayi remarked, “President William Ruto actively campaigned for Odinga’s AUC candidacy, yet some leaders, whose names he did not disclose, were working against him. This election cycle has unveiled many truths, allowing us to discern our genuine friends from those who do not wish us well.”

His comments were echoed by Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, who urged the current broad-based government to prioritize the concerns of the Kenyan populace. Governor Nyong’o stressed that while the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party intervened to stabilize the Kenya Kwanza administration amidst the Gen Z revolution, it cannot passively observe the government neglecting critical issues affecting citizens.

“ODM stepped in to quell the unrest during the anti-government protests, but we are not willing to continue putting out fires unless the government listens to the needs of the people,” Nyong’o stated.

Siaya Governor James Orengo added that having some ODM members in government does not prevent the party from addressing inefficiencies. He emphasized the importance of advocating for the people as they await their opportunity to form their own government. The remarks reflect the ongoing political dynamics as ODM leaders continue to evaluate their role and influence within the current administration.
