The US House of Representatives on 15 January 2021 voted to impeach President Donald J. Trump making him the first president in US history to be impeached twice.
Trump was charged with “incitement of insurrection” over last week’s deadly storming of Congress that left 6 people dead and several injured in a futile attempt to stop the certification of electoral college results.
President Trump was accused of inciting the insurrection at the US Capitol with his false claims of electoral thefts. He will now be tried in the Senate after he leaves office next Wednesday.
10 Republican members of Congress voted with the Democrats to impeach Trump in a 232 -197 vote with the Senate Minority Leader Kevin Mcarthy saying Trump bore responsibility for the mob that invaded congress.
