The CEO of Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) Dr. Ezekiel Mutua today called on all political candidates in the upcoming elections to accept the will of the people and accept the outcome of August 9th Elections.
Speaking during the Nairobi ni Yetu Peace Campaign dubbed organized by the Nairobi Student Leaders Forum at the Daystar University, Dr. Mutua said leaders who really this country must have it at the back of their minds that they can win or loose and agreed with the Global Peace Foundation Kenya Country Director Daniel Juma that candidates should prepare victory and concession speeches.
“In the 2002 elections, I was a senior consultant for then KANU presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta who went to conceded defeat when NARC candidate won the elections.” said Mutua and added that even president Moi who openly backed Uhuru supported the concession and accepted the will of the people.
Speaking on the theme ‘Role Youths and Universities Play in Peace-Building & National Cohesion’ Mutua urged Kenyans to refrain from keyboard warrior tendency and urged the youths to be wary of those hell bent on using social media to preach hatred and animosity as the country gets ready for the upcoming elections.
“Withhold your anger, turn away your mind from insults where there is bitterness respond with kindness, where there is hopelessness give hope, rally together and uphold the peace for this country to move forward” Said Mutua
Mutua said Africa has suffered the consequences of being negatively portrayed in the foreign media and added that a nation must never lose hope. “The story of peace is not just about elections but how we live with one another” said Mutua
Other speakers included Mr. Daniel Juma from the Global Peace Foundation, Prof. Michael Bowen of Daystar University, Singer Octopizzo, Grace Karanja, Ag Dean of Students Affairs Daystar University, officials from the Nairobi Students Leaders Forum among others.
