Former police spokesman Charles Owino abandons Siaya race

Former police spokesman Charles Owino today abandoned the Siaya gubernatorial race where he was running on a joint United Democratic Movement (UDM) ticket with former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo.

Owino went back to his job at the police service as the Director of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons. Owino’s exit now leaves Gumbo, who is touted as a frontrunner in the race that pits him against Siaya Senator James Orengo, without a running mate.

According to prominent Nairobi lawyer Steve Ogolla, people should not panic about Owino dropping his bid to deputize Siaya Gubernatorial Candidate Nicholas Gumbo because IEBC is yet to register candidates, this means the window is open for Engineer Gumbo to shop for another running mate.
