The Independent and Boundaries Electoral Commission (IEBC) has locked Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka out of the August 9th 2022 presidential polls. According to a statement released by the electoral body, the former Vice President’s name is missing from the shot listed sixteen candidates who will now proceed to the next stage of clearance.
The short list which includes Azimio One Kenya Alliance flag bearer Raila Odinga and Deputy President William running on the United Democratic Alliance has a total of 9 political party and 7 independent aspirants. Others vying on political parties are Lawyer George Wajackoya of Roots party, Ekuru Aukot of Thirdway Alliance, Jimmy Wanjigi of Safina Party, David Mwaura Wahiga of Agano party, Muranga Governor Mwangi Wa Iria of Usawa Party and Njeru Kathangu of Ford Asili.
Those running as independents are Eliud Muthioura Kariara, Peter Mubiko Kingori, Faith Wairimu Ngigi, Gibson Ngaruiya N’gan’ga, Jermiah Nyaga, George Munyotta Kamau and Jane Juliet Munyoki.
Kalonzo had submitted his name alongside his runing-mate Andrew Sunkuli after he beaten to the Azimio One Kenya running mate slot by Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua. However, the Wiper party leaders has come under pressure from his political base publicly asking him to re-join the Azimio coalition.
