Kenya is celebrating its 59th Madaraka Day on Wednesday 1st June 2022 at the newly refurbished Uhuru Gardens Memorial Park where President Uhuru Kenya will give his last Madaraka Day speech after being president for the last 10 years.

This is the first Madaraka Day to be celebrated countrywide after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and is themed ‘pamoja tusonge mbele.’ According to Nairobi Regional Commissioner William Kang’ethe Thuku, the celebration marks a very important milestone in the naton after 59 years since the attainment of self-rule from the yoke of colonialism and also approaching the third general election since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.

Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Wonie Bio and his wife Fatima Bio who are in the country on a five-day state visit to Kenya are expected to be the Chief Guests at the event.
