Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja has said that as MP and Senator in Nairobi,he has keenly studied the two previous administrations and has a clear idea what has been done well and what has failed to work and promised to make Nairobi a city of order and dignity.
Speaking on 21st June 2022 at a forum hosted by the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) at Radisson Blu in Nairobi, the Nairobi county Senator said that his administration will will establish a probusiness capital that has investments that employ the youths of Nairobi.
The Senator who was accompanied by his running mate Mr. James Muchiri formerly of Absa Bank said he will divide Nairobi into 5 structural burrows of Nairobi North, East, West, South and Central all headed by Assistant City managers with the Deputy Governor as his Chief City Manager.
The Senator said providing employment opportunities for the youths is key to solving the problem of insecurity in the capital city as this will keep them engaged and unavailable for criminal vices which is a big security threat to the capital. He said his administration will tackle corruption and establish an efficient licensing system by collapsing the various licences into one as well as digitalizing all payment systems.
“To deal with corruption, Nairobi must eliminate human interaction with cash.” said Sakaja
Speaking at the event, the CEO of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance Ms. Carole Kariuki president KEPSA’s manifesto for the city of Nairobi enumerating areas the business community would like any incoming city administration to focus on.
Sakaja urged the business community to partner with his government to make Nairobi work for the welfare of all city dwellers and said that KEPSA will have a seat at his government to contribute ideas. He also said that Estate resident associations will have a key responsibility in budget making and promised to allocate at least 20 million shillings per estate annually to address issues of concern in various estates.
Speaking on behalf of the Mkenya Daima steering committee, the Global Peace Foundation Kenya CEO Daniel Juma Omondi emphasized the need for peaceful elections and peaceful transition as the foundation for a sound democratic culture.
KEPSA which is the apex body of private sector in Kenya brings together local and foreign business associations, chambers of commerce, professional bodies, corporates, multinational companies, start-ups, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from all sectors of the economy in the country, under one umbrella, to enable them speak in one voice when engaging the Government, development partners and other stakeholders on cross-cutting policy issues affecting private sector development.
Through the Mkenya Daima platform, KEPSA is engaging the main gubernatorial candidates in Nairobi to present the manifesto from the business community for whoever is elected governor in Nairobi. KEPSA is next scheduled to engage the Azimio gubernatorial candidate for Nairobi Mr. Polycarp Igathe on 23rth June 2022 in Nairobi.
