“Take responsibility for Nurturing Character & Values during School closures” Daniel Juma tells Parents

The Global Peace Foundation Kenya CEO Daniel Juma Omondi has called on parents to be more vigilant with their children and teach them life skills including character and creativity as schools remain closed for another 5 months until January 2021.

Speaking to Kenya Television news anchor Nicholas Wambua in the KTN Mashinani Swahili programe on 10th July 2020, Mr. Omondi commended President Uhuru Kenyatta for directing the National Crime Research Centre to probe the escalating cases of Gender-Based Violence, the worrying trend where the girl child has been dis empowered through teenage pregnancies and the violation of children’s rights.

He called for the arrest and punishment of rogue teachers and other culprits engaged in impregnating schools girls.

Mr. Omondi says that the current school closure announced by the Cabinet Secretary for Education was necessitated by the need to curb the spread of the Corona virus and that it was practically impossible for children to observe social distance regulations once schools open.

He however said that the covid 19 has provided the youths and children with the opportunity to be innovative and learn new skills such as coding, cooking, and even engage in environmental activities such as Kazi Mtaani.
