The Finnet Institute and ICS partner to promote Governance in the pension sector

The Finnet Institute has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS), to promote good governance practices through consulting and training programmes in the pension sector.

Through this collaboration, Finnet and ICS will drive sharing of knowledge and expertise in the pension sector by tapping into the pool of membership in the governance profession to provide advisory services in matters such as governance audit and pension schemes corporate secretarial services.

“Good corporate governance in the retirement benefit schemes is fundamental to both trustees and the schemes sponsoring employers. Trustees are required to have the knowledge, defined structures and processes in place to meet the stringent requirements set out in the Retirement Benefits Act and the regulations governing the pension sector in Kenya,” says Godwin Simba, the Executive Director, Finnet Institute.  

 “This collaboration will tap into the rich network of experts that ICS has. Inculcating good governance in the management of public and private institutions is core to our mandate. This partnership will amplify the critical role of governance in invigorating the pension sector in Kenya,” says FCS Jeremiah N. Karanja, the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS).

To kick start this collaboration, the two organisations will hold a four-day inaugural Pension Sector Governance Conference from 27th -30th September 2022 at the Whitesands Hotel in Mombasa. The conference will provide advanced knowledge and governance tools to pension sector stakeholders which will bolster their effectiveness in oversight and administration.
