Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pointed fingers at the government following a chaotic disruption of a prayer meeting hosted by his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi. The incident took place on Saturday at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri County, where Maina Njenga and a group of youths invaded the gathering, forcing Pastor Dorcas to leave.
Gachagua took to social media platform X to defend his wife, accusing the State of orchestrating the disruption and labeling Njenga as a gang leader seeking to incite unrest. He declared, “Unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers is the lowest any Government can go, regardless of desperation.”
This incident comes amid rising political tensions in the Mt. Kenya region, particularly following Gachagua’s recent impeachment from his influential position. He has launched a vehement campaign against the government and President William Ruto, urging residents to be vigilant as the 2027 General Election approaches.
Njenga’s return to the political arena post-Gachagua’s ousting has sparked speculation about his intentions to sway the vote-rich region in favor of Ruto. However, Njenga has rejected claims of being an ally to Ruto in Central Kenya.
In a recent interview, he stated, “I am aligning with Kenyans. We want unity.” He also dismissed Gachagua’s threats, saying, “That is just yapping.” As the political landscape evolves, both figures are poised for significant roles in the upcoming election cycle.
