Kenyan man arrestedover murder of woman in Texas

Authorities in Killeen, Texas, have arrested a Kenyan man, John Gitau Mwangi, in connection with the murder of a 37-year-old woman who was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in their home.

According to the Killeen Police Department, the incident, which is believed to be linked to domestic violence, was reported on February 21, 2025, around 7:16 p.m. Officers responded to a welfare check at a residence on Lakecrest Drive, where they found the victim unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at 9:29 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Nicola James. The police have withheld her identity pending notification of her next of kin.

During the investigation, two children were found inside the home and have since been placed in a safe environment.

Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit secured an arrest warrant for Mwangi, who was subsequently located at Fort Cavazos, an army installation near Killeen. He is currently being held at the Killeen City Jail as investigations continue.
