Kenya sends 217 more police officers to Haiti for peacekeeping mission

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the deployment of the third contingent of Kenyan police officers to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti. The group, consisting of 217 officers, will join the first batch of 400 officers already stationed in the Caribbean nation to aid in restoring peace and security.

During the send-off, Murkomen highlighted the significant progress made by the Kenya-led mission in combating gang violence, which has garnered praise from both outgoing and incoming US administrations. He reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to the mission, emphasizing the country’s determination to mobilize international support to ensure its success.

Key officials present at the send-off included Inspector General of the National Police Service Mr. Douglas Kanja, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo, National Security Advisor to the President Dr. Monica Juma, and Deputy National Security Advisor Mr. Joseph Boinnet. Also in attendance were Deputy IG of the Kenya Police Service Mr. Eliud Lagat and Deputy IG of the Administration Police Service Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, along with other senior officers.

This deployment marks a significant step in Kenya’s ongoing efforts to assist Haiti in addressing its security challenges.
