Narok Governor issues Ultimatum for police transfers

Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has given the national government a five-day deadline to finalize the transfer of 194 police officers stationed in Suswa, who were on duty during the violent clashes on January 17, 2025, which resulted in two fatalities.

Speaking at Duka Moja on Thursday, Ole Ntutu, accompanied by local leaders, expressed strong disapproval of a recent Labour Court ruling that temporarily halted the officers’ transfers pending further hearings. The leaders emphasized a significant lack of trust in the officers among the local community and raised concerns regarding the legality of the transfer orders.

One of the local leaders, Ocharo, called for the court to annul what he described as abrupt and punitive transfers that contravene the Service Standing Orders. “The affected officers, many still recuperating from injuries, did not receive adequate notice or consideration for their medical and family circumstances,” court documents stated.

Ocharo highlighted that the transfers have disrupted the education of the officers’ children, forcing some to drop out of school. He further noted that the officers were not provided with relocation allowances, creating substantial financial and logistical burdens.

The ongoing legal case aims to protect the rights of the officers and ensure that future transfer decisions comply with established legal protocols. The community and its leaders are keenly watching the developments, hoping for a resolution that prioritizes both the welfare of the officers and the safety of the local populace.
