The United Nations Human Settlements Programme- UN Habitat, is this year partnering with the Government of Kenya to host World Cities Day set to take place on the October 31st.
The theme for this years event will be; “Better City, Better Life, with the sub theme; “Valuing our communities and cities.”
Transport Infrastructure and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary , James Macharia expressed his delight for such a historic opportunity given to Kenya while breaking the good news.
“Kenya is delighted to be the first country to host the event in Africa. We are committed to promoting sustainable urban and human settlement developments as outlined in our national urban development policy, ” said Mr. Macharia
Due to the current unrest caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the global event will be held virtually and hosted by Nakuru County with support of other counties: Kisumu and Uasin Gishu.
President Kenyatta is among the dignitaries expected to address the event.
