Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa is wanted by the powers that be in connection with larceny of Sh.20million National Governments Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF).
Director of Criminal Investigations detectives yesterday arrested six Malindi NG-CDF officers briefly after the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji approved their prosecution.
The Head of Financial Crime Investigation Unit Mr. Mike Muia said his team had been on high alert and investigating flawed procurement for the construction of the Malindi education office that cost the NG-CDF Sh.20 million.
He added that most of the stolen funds were wired into Jumwa’s personal accounts and that of her kin. Muia added that four of the bidders were close relatives of the MP including her children. He accused the tender evaluators of doing a shady job.
“There were five applicants and four were related to the MP, her children and her sister. After payments were made the money was wired back to the MPs personal account,” added Mr. Muia.
He further added that the MP and other suspects would face charges relating to abuse of office, procurement malpractices other graft charges.
Those arrested together with the MP include NG-CDF manager Wachu Omar Abdalla and officers Sophia Said, Benard Kai, Margaret Faith Kalume, Robert Katana and government engineer Kennedy Otieno Onyango.
