ODM leader Raila Odinga on 10th January joined President Uhuru Kenyatta in a tour of development projects in the lakeside city of Kisumu and announced his satisfaction with the transformation.
In a statement posted in his Twitter handle, Odinga said ” I am impressed by the progress of development projects in Kisumu that we saw while on an inspection tour of the county with President Uhuru Kenyatta. The lakeside city is undergoing gradual a welcome gradual transformation”
The projects toured by the two leaders who were accompanied vy the Kisumu Governoer Professor Anyang Nyongo included the Sh350 million Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu which will be the venue of the Afrcities Summit this year.
Kisumu has benefited greatly from the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga with reports indicating that in the last three alone, the national government and other development partners have brought about Sh8 billion to fund development projects in the county.
The commissioning of the 20,000 seater Stadium on June 24 at the Mamboleo Showground was the latest gift from the national government to the lakeside city.
As a result, Kisumu has seen the rehabilitation of Kisumu port at a cost of over Sh3 billion, the completion of a Sh1.7 billion oil jetty, and the construction of an ultra-modern Uhuru market at a cost of Sh350 million.
Both the President and Odinga landed in the lakeside city in the morning and held meetings with 4 county governors in the region before embarking on their tour.
