51 year old pastor and Civil Rights activist Raphael Warnock will be Georgia’s first Black senator after defeating Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler in the just concluded Georgia Senate race.
Warnock’s victory is sweet revenge against Sen. Kelly Loeffler who labelled him a “radical liberal”. During the Georgia’s Senate debate recently, Loeffler referred to her opponent as “radical liberal Raphael Warnock” and attacked his politics, his faith and by extension, his race. She sponsored ads that highlighted Warnock’s alleged extremism and darkened his skin colour in the most expensive election in US history.
President Trump peached for Loeffler and urged his supporters to vote for Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue to prevent the “socialists” and “communists” from gaining control of the U.S. Senate.
Warnock claimed victory in a video statement released a few hours before the race was called and referred to his humble beginnings in the “Kayton Homes housing projects of Savannah, Georgia” as one of 12 children.
“So, I stand before you as a man who knows that the improbable journey that led me to this place in this historic moment in America could only happen here.” said Warnock.
